Today I read an article in the New York Times concerning education in the USA. As you might expect it does not present a lot of great news. Our local situation is probably better than what is described in this article but we will all have to live with some of these problems if the author is correct.

Hi Everyone --
I don't know how to create a new blog here but wanted all of Chuck's friends to know that he passed away this morning very unexpectedly. He was not feeling well so he checked into Lakes Regional to get some tests done.
He was doing fine and walking around talking with the nursing staff and went to bed last night around 11:00pm. He was discovered during a routine check. At this time we are all in shock. If you know Chuck, then you know that God didn't make a better person on this great green earth. He will not only be missed by his friends and family, but by the thousands of students at Spirit Lake Middle School where he taught and coached for 35 years.

I am shocked and deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such an influential and inspiring educator and, must mention, human being! He truly was passionate about his profession and that is such a gift to those that were fortunate enough to have him as a teacher!
My deepest sympathy goes out to you and may you take comfort in knowing what an incredible impact he had in the Spirit Lake community! He will live on in the hearts of all those he touched

Coach Rizzuti was always one of my favorite staff at Spirit Lake. I had him both as a teacher and a coach.
He lived more than a full life in his short 59 years on this earth.
Rest in Peace Coach and peace be with your family during this time.

I was unable to attend the funeral Saturday but was at the visitation Friday. My condolences go out to his family and I would like to express the impact he had on all of his students. I am amazed at how his teaching has stuck with me all these years. I feel very fortunate to have been in his classroom. He will be missed.

I was a long drive away and unable to attend the funeral. Fortunately, I was able to have Mr. Rizzuti as a teacher and coach while at Spirit Lake, and I know I (and everyone else he taught) was the better for it.
Luckily I was able to stay in touch with Chuck as the years passed and I made my living teaching math as well. I was always looking for a better way to do my job, and he was always quick to respond and help guide me through the problem. (I never had the answer given to me, though, just like the days back at SLJH!)
My condolences to his family.

Thank you, all of you for the kind messages. I have shared them with our family. There were hundreds of people who came to the visitation and to the funeral services, which while very sad, were very beautiful thanks to the gracious people of Spirit Lake and to my younger brother Jim who handled the funeral and to my nieces Rachel, who just graduated from Liberty U. and Noel who is graduating from White Knoll HS who sang during the services. Their singing was very moving. It was if they were lifted by the angels.
